ELDER BOOKER, EX-MISSIONARY IS DEAD AT 85
Elder Norman Lafayette Booker, 85, a retired missionary who served throughout the US and in the British West Indies, died Wednesday at Escatawpa.
He died at his home only a few miles from site of an old wooden church in which he served 56 years ago during his first assignment as a missionary in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Booker had been in failing health for several years but his kindness and good will toward others had not faltered.
He retired from missionary work four years ago and returned to Escatawpa to make his home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p m from Escatawpa RLDS Church. Officiating will be his son Elder R L Booker, Mobile, and Elders L W Kohlman, A D McCall and E B Sherman. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Other survivors include his wife; a daughter Mrs Aarona Kohlman, Lamoni, Iowa; two brothers Grover Booker, Vancleave and Rushton Booker, Parsons, Kans.
Seven sisters, Mrs Ollie Davis, Millbrae, Calif; Mrs Ina Burton, Missouri; Mrs Perlie Miller, Mobile; Sue Booker, Mable Booker, Vena Booker and Mrs Mildred Wilkins, all of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Jackson County Mortuary, Pascagoula is in charge of funeral arrangements.
