George W Gillett was the son of Culver M Gillett and Nancy Boyle. His family was in Erie County, New York in 1850, and in Oswego City, New York in 1855 and 1860.

By 1870, George had moved with his brother Marcus D to Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. George married Nora Crimmins there in 1871. The couple lived in Milwaukee. They had two children, George Culver 1872, and Maude 1874.

In 1884 his wife Nora died. George and his two children moved to the town of Rolling, Langlade County, Wisconsin and lived close to his brother Truman. Later he moved to Antigo in Langlade county, where he lived the rest of his life.
