Mr. Kemper was born April 11, 1871 in Shelby County, the son of John and Mary Kemper. When he was a small boy, the family moved to Howard County, settling on a farm nort6h of Greentown. This community has been his home since.

He married Miss Laura Hunsinger on October 6, 1894. Two children were born to them. One died in infancy. A daughter, Nada, grew to womanhood and married Willard Ball.
