Vesta was the daughter of Delson Forrest and Clara Estella Geer Thorn. She was married to Donald Leach Brookover, Sr. Their children were: Donald Leach, Duwaine Prater, Sharon Elizabeth, Dwight Elwood and Geraldine Friend Leach and Ruth Lee Friend Dowler.

Brookover PARKERSBURG - Vesta Alice Brookover, 94, of Parkersburg passed away May 11, 2003, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born July 23, 1908, in Sandyville, a daughter of the late Delson Forrest Thorn Sr. and Clara Estelle Geer Thorn. She graduated from the Old Parkersburg Junior High School, December Class, 1924. She was the 4-H leader of the Worthington 4-H Club for 10 years and was also a 4-H Charting Pin wearer. She was the last remaining member of the Minnie Haw! Haw! girls' group of Vienna in the 1920s. Vesta was a former member of the North Parkersburg Garden Club and loved flower gardening. She helped the restoration of the Buffalo Log Church in Palestine, W.Va., is a former member of Old North Parkersburg Baptist Church; and was a 74-year member of the Wayside United Methodist Church, Vienna, where she was a leader of the Old Epworth League and a member of the Church Prayer Chain, Ruth Fellowship and Friendship Sunday class. She taught Sunday School most of her life. Vesta had worked at McCroys of Parkersburg, Silk Mill, S.S. Kressge, Sears Robuck and retired from Arlans. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon E. Willis and her husband, William, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sons, Donald Leach Brookover Jr. and his wife, Ginny of Newark, W.Va., Duwaine Prater Brookover and his wife, Mary Ellen of Colville, Wash., and Dwight Elwood Brookover of Valley Mills, W.Va.; a special friend, Harry W. Hall; her dog, Tinker; eight grandchildren, Donald Brookover III, Jerald Brookover, Angela Brannon and her husband, Roy, J. Michael Boston II and his wife, Kellie, Shaine Brookover and his wife, Shaila, Scott Brookover and his wife, Tonja, Janette Ingrund and her husband, Tom, and Leslie Ann Peppers and son-in-law, William Leach; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald Leach Brookover Sr.; two daughters, Geraldine Friend Leach and Ruth Lee Friend Dowler; three sisters, Mable Julia Thorn, Hazel Thorn and Hattie Lucille Griffin Joyner; and three brothers, Jerl Thorn, Delson Thorn Jr. and Charles E. Thorn. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wayside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandra Runion officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
