Nancy Taylor Barrow Webster, aka Honey, was born Jan 17, 1924, and passed away Dec. 28, 2002, from cancer. Lifetime resident of Dallas, she dedicated her life to her family and the well-being of the clients and families of the mentally ill. A graduate of HIghland Park in 1941, she attended Rice University. In 1975, she founded F.A.I.R, which evolved into the National Alliance of the Mentally Ill (N.A.M.I./Dallas) which supports, educates, and advocates for the metally ill. Nancy is known as the Godmother of N.A.M.I./Dallas. She hosted and conducted business out of her home until 1996 when office space was donated. She remainded on the advisory board until her death. She was given the Volunteer of the Year award in 1990. In 1992, she received the Texas Alliance Family Advocate of the Year. Since 1994 an award dedicated in her name is given to outstanding volunteers. In 1995, she received an award for her continuing commitment as a founding member. She was instrumental in her late husband, Bill Webster's Ministries which is part of Lifenet, originally known as Phoenix House, whose purpose was to house the homeless. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Pratt of Plano, Quentin K. Barrow, Jr. of Dallas, and Scott and Sandy Barrow of Rowlett. Seven grandchildren include Shelly Feltman, Nikki Pratt, Mandy Torres, William Barrow, Scott Barrow, II, Brandy Barrow and DuLane Mellor. Three great grandchildren include Kali Mellor, Laney Gutierrez, and Treyton Feltman. Also surviving are Sister-in-law Joan Jackson and her husband Bob of Dallas. She was preceeded in death by parents Ben and Ursa Taylor, brother Ben Taylor, Jr., and husband Bill Webster. She was loved by many. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at Restland Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers please make donations to N.A.M.I./Dallas, Inc.
