She and Lee had four children, Dean, William, Dale and Ethel. She managed the records and written communications for the farm. As a farmer's wife she canned fruit, vegetables, meat, made lye soap; baked and other home chores. Family oral history says that between 1918 & 1922 Lee & Susie were in the process of adopting a child but that it died before the paper work was finalized.
She and Lee both owned and carried revolvers. Lee once used his to shoot a wild cat over his head as he walked to work. She and Lee were Matron and Superintendent of the Butler County Home for six years after retiring from farming. They did extensive traveling by house trailer after retirement with a winter home in Florida.
