Jo Evelyn ‘Jody' Reid Johnson, 79, of Iowa Park, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, in Plano, Texas.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park, Texas, with Rev. John Hare and Rev. Dennis Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Jody was born June 20, 1930, and raised in Wheeler, Texas, to Otis and Opal Reid. She was a 1948 graduate of Wheeler High School where she was a varsity cheerleader, senior class president, voted most popular and earned a scholarship in basketball to Wayland College. She and H.C. Johnson were married April 30, 1950, in Portales, New Mexico. Jody and H.C. moved their family to Iowa Park in 1966. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Iowa Park. She was also a homemaker.
Jody's favorite things in life were spending time with her kids, cooking, sewing, traveling, swimming, and fishing and more fishing.
Her parents and a brother, Harold Reid preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, H.C., of the home; children, Steve Johnson and wife, Glenda of Wichita Falls, Cindy Walker and husband, Norman of Iowa Park, Tommy Johnson and wife, Linda of Wichita Falls, Rhonda Houston and husband, Kent of Ames, Iowa, Terry Johnson and wife, Caren of Mansfield, Texas, Tessy Cole and husband, John of Flint, Texas, and Robert Johnson and wife, April of Iowa Park; sisters, Linda McNelly of Lubbock, Texas, and Winnie Dodge of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the Iowa Park Police Officer's Association.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009, at Dutton Funeral Home.
