Linn was born one of two sons to Jacob and Arta (Parvin) Coval and was raised on the family farm in Hodgeman County, Kansas.
In 1941, Linn married Harriet Richie of Spearville and the two made their home on a farm in Kalvesta Kansas, co-owned by his sister Florence and her husband Marvin Troehmel. In 1966, the families sold the farm and purchased a home in Dodge City.
Linn and Harriet had four children together, Lester Wayne (1945-2000), Stanley Arthur (1948-1994), Debra and Loren.
Linn suffered a stroke in 1994 and in 2000 returned to his maker.
