Walter A. (Dub) Bruner passed from this life January 2, 2010 to be home with his Lord and Savior. Dub will be sorely missed by his family and those that knew him as a very serving Christian.

Dub was born December 24, 1929 to Sam and Grace Bruner of Shamrock, Texas. He was raised in McLean, Texas and graduated from McLean High School in 1949. He married Norma Joyce Mercer in July 1950. Dub and Norma had two daughters, Brenda McCord and Janis Bruner Pond.

Dub has been an active and serving member of the Highland and 5th and Grape Street Church of Christ since 1950. Dub was a generous servant to the Lord. Following in the footsteps of his father, he worked the oil fields of West Texas including Moore and Moore Drilling and later owned Key West Oil Company and Dub's Pest Control up to retirement.

Most of all, Dub enjoyed helping others. He loved gardening and working in his workshop making many family heirlooms that will be cherished for years to come.

Dub was preceded in death by his wife Norma; his daughter Janis Pond; his parents Sam and Grace; a brother Bob; and two sisters, Betty Stephens and Joyce Frost.

He is survived by his wife Faye Clinton Bruner; daughter, Brenda McCord of Fort Worth; a sister, Helen Melton of Spearman; stepsons Randy and John Clinton; grandchildren Chris McCord, Heather McCord Manning, Scott and Lance Clinton as well as seven great-grandchildren, all who loved their Pa Pa and Dub Dub.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 4th, 2010, at 2 p.m., at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory Street in Abilene, with Murphy Rhodes and Edsel Hughes officiating and burial to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Elliott-Hamil.

The families' heartfelt thanks go to those at Hendrick Medical Center and The Hospice Care Center of Hendrick for the special care shown during his most difficult times.
