Harriet Valentine Richie was born one of seven children to Vandie and Jesse (Oakes) Richie in Spearville Kansas. She was the youngest daughter of the couple.
In 1941 she married Linn Coval and the couple would have four children together, Lester Wayne (1945-2000), Stanley Arthur (1948-1994), Debra and Loren. She worked as an operator for the telephone company until retiring in 1978.
In 1993 she was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle with the disease shortly after her 75th birthday in 1998.
