He was a C.W.O. in the U.S. Army before retirement and also retired as band director of Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville. He was a member of Earle Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are sons, Daniel A. Allen Jr. of Florence, Franklyn C. Allen and Robert B. Allen of Greenville; a sister, Ida Mae Baxter; brothers, Eugene Womack Allen and J.F. Allen; and grandsons, Jay, Curtis, Andrew, Bobby and Eric.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, Greenville Civic Band, or Earle Street Baptist Church.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Service: 2 p.m. Sunday at Earle Street Baptist Church. Burial: Graceland Cemetery, West.
