"William Knight, the man who attempted to kill Wesley Worthen by shooting him at Tecumseh last Sunday for alleged alienation of his wife's affections, was bound over to the district court for trial on his preliminary examination. The examination was in the county court and the judge fixed bail at $1,000. Knight could not furnish the bail and went to jail."

"Given One Day In Jail TECUMSEH, Neb, Dec 1 --(Special)--In the district court here today before Judge Letton, William Knight was sentenced to one day in jail on the charge of shooting with intent to do great bodily harm on the person of Wesley Worthen. Knight filled Worthen's anatomy with buckshot last spring, as he charges Worthen was trifling with his wife's affections. In pronouncing sentence the court took into consideration the fact that Knight has been in jail all summer."

VALENTINE NEBRASKA DECEMBER 8. 1898. NUMBER 46.
"William Knight was sentenced to one day in jail in the district court at Tecumseh. Knight was tried on the charge of shooting with intent to do great bodily harm to Wesley Worthen. Worthen was shot with a shotgun last spring when caught in the company of Knight's wife. As Knight had been in jail all summer, and Worthen entirely recovered from his wound, the court was lenient."

Ephraim Wesley Worthen and Cynthia Groger Worthen divorce about 1898. Their last child, Mildred, was born June of 1898. 1900 census records show Cynthia as divorced.

In 1903, son Charles Earl Worthen (1883-1935) joined the Army, and made the military his career. He was stationed at Ft. Assinniboine, near present day Havre, Montana, leaving there in 1907.
