THOMAS MARTIN BEVARD

Thomas Martin Bevard, of Keokuk, a former resident of the vicinity of Derby, and also of Williamson, was killed when a wheel came off his roadster while driving near Wayland on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 29, and his car plunged into a ditch. His skull was fractured, his chest crushed, and he was otherwise injured. He never regained consciousness, passing away in St. Joseph's hospital the following Tuesday evening. The body was brought to the vicinity of Derby and buried in the Last Chance cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. Frank T. Carter, of Humeston.

Thomas Martin Bevard was born Feb. 4, 1888 in Elwood, Nebr., a son of Thomas and Vashti Bevard. He moved with his parents to Clarke county, Iowa in 1894.. He was married in 1914 to Miss Ruth Smith in Osceola. They resided at Melcher and Williamson during the four years previous to their taking up their residence at Keokuk, Iowa.

To this union were born two sons, Glen and Leo, who with the mother survive; also his mother, Mrs. Vashti Vanlaningham, and three brothers, Frank of Cozad, Nebr.; Robert of Weldon; and Firman of Derby. He was preceded in death by his father in 1899 and an infant son, Marion Roy, in 1916.

He united with the Christian church at Keokuk fourteen years ago, transferring his membership from the church at Williamson.
