Marvin was the only child of Leidy and Ethel Troehmel. He was raised in Kingsdown, Kansas and left for WWII in 1942, during which he earned a Bronze Star (the fourth highest combat military award) for heroism.
Marvin married Florence Coval in Las Vegas, NV during his military service and the two later adopted a daughter, Dolores.
Marvin operated a farm with Florence's brother Linn until 1966, when the two families sold the farm and moved to Dodge City. During the move, Marvin suffered a heart attack and died.
