Suggested edit: Mrs. Julia Martha Mathias, 72, a resident of Mathias, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at her home after a lingering illness.

She was born December 24, 1886, the daughter of Phillip and Frances Sager.

She was a former member of the Jenkins Chapel EUB Church and later a member of the Garretts Chapel EUB Church.

In August 1910, she married John F. Mathias, who died in 1952.

She is survived by 10 children, Woodrow Mathias, Mrs. Howard DeLawder, Mrs. Arlie Stultz, Roy Mathias, Benjamin Mathias, John T. Mathias, and Mrs. Ada Caplinger, all of Mathias, Mrs. Beulah Barb of Timberville, Mrs. Charles Hahn of Wardensville, W.Va., and Mrs. Everette Getz, of Mt. Jackson, four sisters, Mrs. Etta Mathias, of Hummelstown, Pa., Mrs. Emmie Mathias, of Mathias, Mrs. Josie Whitmer of Harrisonburg, and Mrs. Nerva Ludwig, of Rio, W.Va., two brothers, William and Perry Sager, of Mathias, 26 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Three children and one brother preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Garretts Chapel EUB Church with the Revs. Robert Nair and Wendell Mathias officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
