Mr. Thomas, 62, of Moreland Hills, died of heart failure Saturday at University Hospitals. He had been admitted to the hospital with heart problems four days earlier.

He was born in Cleveland and graduated in 1948 from Cleveland Heights High School where he played football.

He attended the College of Wooster for one year, then graduated from Case Institute of Technology in 1952 with a metallurgical engineering degree.

While working at TRW, he continued taking night courses at Case. He earned a master's degree in business administration in 1955.

He belonged to the Church of the Western Reserve - Presbyterian, where he was a former elder and treasurer.

He was a Mason. He also was a member of the American Society of Metals.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann (Cookie) Reno Thomas, and son, R. Thatcher Thomas of Moreland Hills.
