Elizabeth V. Gardocky, 88, died at 4:48 p.m. Jan. 2, 2010, at Jameson Care Center. She was born Nov. 1, 1921, in Vintondale, Pa., to Zygmond Yobbagy and Elizabeth Hugya. She had lived in New Castle since 1948, when she married Julius C. Gardocky. They were married 47 years before his death in September 1995.

She was a homemaker, and worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Vital Statistics for 12 years as a clerk. She was Catholic and a member of St. Camillus Church and its Ladies Guild. She also was a member of the AM-VETS of New Castle, the Business and Professional Women's Association of New Castle, Eastern Star's New Castle Chapter and the Prime Timers. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, J. Alan Gardocky of New Castle, and Jerome C. Gardocky and his wife, Sylvia, of Chicago; a daughter, Joyce E. Holzhauser and her husband, Jerry, of New Castle; two brothers, Dr. John Yobbagy of Mesa, Ariz., and Paul Yobbagy of Ebensburg, Pa.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Holzhauser Rivera and her husband, Alex, of Oakland, Calif.; and a grandson, Jacob Holzhauser of New Castle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius; brothers, William, Zygmund, Alex and Joseph Yobbagy; and a sister, Marie Bosze.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Camillus Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Thomas Lewandowski, pastor, will officiate.
Entombment will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence County Chapter of the American Red Cross in her memory.
