Early life was employed in the winter months in teaching and summer in the varied duties pertaining to farming. In 1854 he began work for Edward Harris of Woonsocket and managed offices for him in Boston and New York. He later became a patner and treasurer of the Harris Woolen Co. In 1876 he was named the president of the American Worsted Company. A staunch republican and in 1888 he represented his constituents in the state senate. His religious support is given to the Methodist Episcopal church.
