Michael Marty (46482674)
Suggested edit: WITHEE - Michael Marty, 23, Route 2. Withee. was killed instantly about 11:15 a.m. Friday when a tree fell on him while he and a companion were cutting logs in the town of Withee about 4' '2 miles northwest of Thorp. Marty and Greg Rohland, 23, of Route 2, Withee, were working about 15 feet apart when the accident occurred, said authorities. Marty was using a chainsaw to trim a tree he had just felled. Rohland was cutting down a tree when his saw ran out of fuel. As Rohland turned around to get more gasoline, the tree began falling. He called out to Marty, who was apparently unable to hear because of the noise made by the chainsaw. The tree struck Marty across the back, pinning him beneath it. Rohland said he cut the tree away from him .as well as he could, then ran to the nearby farmhouse of Robert Walters and called the Thorp ambulance. . Ambulance attendants said Marty was dead at the scene. Rohland, who had cut his knee the week before with a chainsaw, said the wound had reopened while he was trying to free Marty, and he was taken to a Thorp physician for treatment. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee, the Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
