Daniel Mansfield Carter was born on Sept. 24, 1871 in Marion, Alabama. (The birth year on his stone is wrong: he was 8 in the June, 19, 1880 census) He was the second child of William "Bill" and Mary Alice Wiggington Carter. He married Dora Bell Hamric(k)on Sep 10, 1893 at her father's house. The family had eight children, six of whom lived. Their last two, twin baby girls died either at birth or shorly afterwards. Dan was widowed in 1918. He married Mary Shirley ca. 1934/35 but they were later divorced. He died Aug. 7, 1957 in Cordova, Alabama of a cerebral thrombosis. He had a total of 27 grandchildren.
