Also surviving are his children, Susie (Randy) Walker of Greenfield, Cindy (Kevin) Branham and Kathy (Tom) Burtle, both of Glenarm, Jill (Raymond) Devlin of Auburn, Denise (Clifford) Kirby of Virden, Theresa (Steve) Hoblitzell of Manteno, Norman Jr. (Alisha) Myers of Divernon, Michael Myers of Auburn, Kathleen (Larry) Price of Virden, Connie (Charlie) Riner of Farmersville and Kathy (Ben) Bagwell of Griffith, Ind.; 42 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, Raymond and Edward Winters; and six sisters, Marjorie Frank, Hilda Mohr, Dimple Gorbett, Celia Edwards, Elsie Cunningham and Frances Thornton; and a child, Samuel Myers.
Mr. Winters served in the Armed Forces for 34 years and was involved in farming and construction during and after his time in service. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, was an avid card player and was a member of the Athensville Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time for funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Shields-Bishop Funeral Home in Greenfield, IL. Officiating at the services is Pastor David Ford with Mr. Winters' grandaughter, Tyann Hallock, delivering the eulogy. Serving as casket bearers are Tim Walker, Evan Branham, Justin Devlin, Joseph Palazzolo, Kyle Price, Chrostopher Moore, and Waymond Wyatt. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Providence Cemetery.
