Dorothy L.[Louise] Studebaker (nee Wendell), 89, a 60-year resident of St. Clair Shores, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000 in her home. She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Conneaut, [Ashtabula County] Ohio [to Walter Gray and Anna (Sklar) Wendell]. [ASIDE: Dorothy's unnamed twin sister was stillborn.]
Her early childhood was spent in Lyndora, [Butler County] Pa., before the extended family moved to Detroit in 1922. [Sadly, her mother and younger brother Harry died within a year of their arrival in Detroit.]
Mrs. Studebaker retired in 1971 after 20 years of service as a secretary for Chrysler Defense Corp. She was honored for her 15 years of work for the Alzheimer's bingo charity.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Anne Studebaker of Fraser, sons J. Gerald of St. Clair Shores and E. Charles (Fay) of Detroit; brother, Clinton A. Wendell of Winter Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her youngest brother, Edgar C. Wendell in 1999; former husband Burton F. Studebaker, in 1962; and son Burton F. Studebaker Jr., in 1935.
A memorial service will be held after the Christmas holidays. [It was held on what would have been her 90th birthday, i.e., 16 Nov 2001.] Arrangements were made by Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , Detroit Area Chapter, 17220 W. 12 Mile Road, Suite 100, Southfield, MI 48076."
