Was Lumberman and Postmaster There Several Years
Lancaster, Mar. 3 (Special).—
Funeral services for Oliver Hiram Simmons, 82, who died in a Kirksville hospital Saturday evening at six o'clock following a week's hospitalization, will be held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock in the Lancaster Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by the Rev. L.L. Gaither with burial in the Arni Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Head Funeral Home.
Mr. Simmons was well known in Schuyler county, having been in the lumber business in Lancaster for several years and the postmaster there for a number of years. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Civic Club.
He was born in Schuyler county July 12, 1869, the son of Perry A. and Martha (Woodcock) Simmons. About 58 years ago he was married to Miss Etta Leedom. His wife, two daughters, Miss Ethelyn Simmons and Mrs. Floyd Melvin, two sons, John and Hugh, and three grandchildren survive him.
