Mrs. J.A. Whaley, Pioneer Resident, Dies Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. J.A. Whaley, a well-known pioneer resident, were held today at the First Christian Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. T.T. Posey, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. Aubrey C. Haynes, pastor of the First Methodist Church.

Mrs. Whaley died early Wednesday morning as the result of an accident in her home last Friday. She was the daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. G.J. Adkisson and moved to Hall County in her early years. She married J.A. Whaley in Memphis June 30, 1909, and they celebrated their 37th anniversary last year.

Mrs. Whaley was a member of the First Christian Church, past president of the Women's Council of the church, a charter member of the Winnie Davis chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and a member of the Atalantean Club.

She is survived by her husband; two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Reese of Hedley, and Mrs. J.D. Browder of Mineral Wells; three brothers, Will and Gid Adkisson of Abernathy, and Douglas Adkisson of Tulia; her nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were T.C. Anthony, Elmo Whaley, Luke Hart, Richard Whaley, Walter Whaley, J.W. West, Jo Dalp Adkisson and Douglass Adkisson.
