John T. Dillehay was a veteran of the Civil War in which he fought with Company A of the 6th Regiment, Kentucky Calvary. He enlisted on 8 Sept 1862 in Stanford, KY. On 20 July 1863, he was captured near Cheshire, Ohio along with several other members of Morgan's Raiders. In the summer of 1865, he was part of a POW release in exchange for the release of Union soldiers.

Following the Civil War, he returned to McLean County, KY. He was married to Jane Lewis Sennett and Rose Ann Schrader.

Mr. Dillehay lived to be 99 years old.
