George E. (Ed) Waddle, 75, formerly in the monument business here, died at 4 a.m. today at his home, 817 East Main Street.

The son of James and Frances Cannon Waddle, he was born in Schuyler County, Mo., February 25, 1870, but had been a resident of Ottumwa for 23 years. He was proprietor of the Wapello County Monument Co. here, retiring two years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine; and two sons, William Waddle, Memphis, Mo., and Orb Waddle, Downing, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Short services will be held at the Johnson Funeral Chapel at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. R.C. Keagy of Wesley Methodist Church, and at the Fabious Baptist Church, five miles east of Lancaster, Mo., at 2:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Thurman Andrew. Burial will be in Fabious Cemetery.

The casket will be taken to the residence here at 1 p.m. Friday and will be returned to the chapel Saturday morning.
