Funeral services for William J Smith, 73, who died Thursday afternoon at his home near Warnerville, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist Church in Norfolk with Rev. Halvorsen, minister, in charge.
Mr. Smith was born near Barth, Germany, Nov 5, 1867 coming to this country with his parents when he was a year old. They settled near Walsworth, Wis. And in 1887, he came to Madison County.
He was married Dec9, 1897, to Mattie Simson, and to them eight sons and daughters were born, two sons, Loran and Scott, preceding him in death. Mr. Smith became a member of the First Baptist church
In Norfolk in May 1932, and had since been a faithful member.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Smith, Norfolk, and the following daughters: Mrs. Muriel Stange and Mrs. Stella Walters of Norfolk, Mrs. Lena Kallhoff of Ewing, Mrs. Mary W Wehrer of Omaha, and Mrs. Sarah Lowery of Peoria, ILL., and one son Marion Smith of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Smith living in Illinois: a sister, Mrs. Alex Cunningham, Enola, and sixteen grandchildren.
