Served with the 142nd Infantry, 36th Division, and was killed during the landing at Salerno, Italy. Son of Charles Dee Bilbrey, Sr and Gertrude Lois Angel. His brother, Dee Bilbrey, Jr also served the country during World War II. Service No. (ASN): 20804788

RITES AT BALLINGER SUNDAY FOR SOLDIER WHO FELL AT SALERNO
BALLINGER, July 22-- Reburial services will be held here Sunday for Cpl. Carl Bilbrey, Ballinger soldier who was killed at Salerno Sept. 7, 1944.
Funeral with military honors will be at Newby-Davis chapel at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon withh Archie W. Gray chaplain of the Ballinger American Legion Post in charge. Mimlitary rites will be Cemetery (sic) held at the graveside in Evergreen.
Pallbearers will be six of Bilbrey's comrades who served in the 142d Infantry, Elmer L. Kemp, John . Cook, Rufus W Ranscarger and Shelby R. Singleton.
Bilbrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Deen Bilbrey, was born 23, 1922 at Alvarado. He lived in Ballinger many years. His National Guard unit was called to mobilize in 1940 and he went oerseas with the 36th Division. He served in North Africa before making the Salerno landing in Italy.
Survivors are the parents, three brothers, Charles Bilbrey and Deen Bilbrey, Jr., both of Ballinger and Alvin Bilbrey of San Angelo; and one sister, Jr. J. W. McLean of McCamey.
