Don Amos Slinkard

Don Amos Slinkard of Prineville died Sunday of natural causes. He was 78.

A viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Prineville Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Juniper Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Slinkard was born Jan. 13, 1923, in Lyons, Kan., to Ernest and Hannah (Hendrix) Slinkard.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a tank driver in the Spear Head Armored Division.

Mr. Slinkard married Viola Oyler on Oct. 5, 1947, in Sycrasuc, Kan. They moved to Oregon in 1948.

He worked as a log truck driver. He and his family moved to Prineville in July of 1978.

Mr. Slinkard was a member of the Prineville Golf and Country Club and American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, playing the guitar, hunting and spending time with his wife.

Survivors include his wife of Prineville; two brothers, Calvin of Springdale, Ark., and Tom of Yuba City, Calif.; and two sisters, Berna Jean Hall of Cassville, Mo., and Jun White of Crave Town, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, four brothers and four sisters.

Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
