JAMES CLAYTON PAYNE SR., 49, of 1705 E. 20th St., died at 2 p.m. Monday at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital. He was a retired farmer. Born in Daviess County on March 10, 1922, he had lived here two years and was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Katherine Potter Payne; four sons, James Jr., Michael W., David L., and Charles A. Payne, all of Owensboro; four daughters, Mrs. Cecelia Kaelin, Owensboro, Miss Shelia Payne, Miss Rebecca L. Payne and Miss Patricia G. Payne, all at home; three grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James M. Payne, Knottsville; two brothers, Clyde E. Payne, Knottsville and Clifton Payne, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Lorena Stallings, Ft. Wayne, Ind. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. The Rev. Phillip Field, assistant pastor at the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at Haley-McGinnis and Owensboro Funeral Home, where friends may call.
