William Boucek was born February 16, 1899 at Ada, Kansas. He was the son of Joseph and Magdalena Cermak Boucek.
He grew up on the family farm near Ada. After his schooling, he worked on the farm before serving in the Army Infantry during WWI, from 1917 to 1919. After his discharge, he came back to the farm where he farmed for several years.
In the early 1930's, he moved to Leavenworth, Kansas. He worked at the U.S. Federal Prison as an extradition officer for many years. He also was employed as a correctional officer at the Kansas State Prison at Lansing for a number of years and retired from there in February of 1964. After his retirement, he moved to Ottawa, where he had kept a home for many years during his employment in Leavenworth.
He was married to Ruth Brion and she passed away in 1926. He then married Hattie Rehor and she also preceded him in death in 1962. On March 9, 1964, he married Dora Rush in Iola, Kansas.
He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ottawa Memorial Post #5901; and a member of Warren Black American Legion Post #60 at Ottawa.
Mr. Boucek had made his home at Crestview Nursing Home in Ottawa for the past 2 1/2 years. He spent the last several days in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leavenworth, Kansas. He passed away there early Tuesday morning, December 25, 1990. He was 91 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Dora Boucek of Ottawa; two sons, Billy B. Boucek and his wife Cloris Ann of Ottawa, and Ronald A. Boucek and his wife Judy of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one daughter, Pat Smith of Minneapolis, Kansas; three step-daughters, Peggy Hobbs of Bullhead, Arizona, Ilene Rice of Salina, Kansas, and Della Jo Reynolds in New Jersey; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Boucek; one daughter, Marcina Roth; and ten brothers and sisters.
Mr. Boucek was an honest and hardworking man. He believed in the value of education for others. He will be long remembered by his family and friends.
