Harvey was the son of Jeremiah NeSmith and Teddie Minona (Hood) NeSmith He grew up in Orlando, Florida.
Harvey met Lois in Grove City, where he was in radio school at the college while in the Marine Corps. She traveled to Orlando to marry him before he left for Guadalcanal.
He married Lois on December 12th, 1942 and they had 3 children named Victoria, Raymond and Theodore. Shortly after his marriage he served as a Marine during the remainder of World War II.
After 1945 Harvey became the owner and operator of the NeSmith Grocery Store. He was also a very active member of both the Masonic Lodge and the Bahia Shrine.
