Lucy was born on June 10, 1771, the daughter of John Atwood and his wife Concurrence Hurd.
Curtiss and Lucy had seven children, all born in Huntington: Stephen, John Atwood, Mary A., Lucy, Charles Curtiss, Thomas Jefferson, and Caroline Elizabeth Tomlinson. All children but son Thomas lived through adulthood and married. Thomas is buried next to his father.
After Curtiss' death, Lucy was allowed pension on her application executed September 1, 1838. She was still a resident of Huntington.
