Alice was born in Calhoun, KY and spent her early years on the family farm in McLean County, KY. The family moved to Owensboro, KY by the time she went to high school and she graduated from Owensboro High School. After high school, she met and married Sam Allgood who was in the Army preparing to go to Europe in WWII.
Alice was an accomplished pianist and vocalist and studied at the University of Louisville for a time. Most of her adult life was devoted to being a wife and the mother of three children.
