KEYSER, W.Va. - Leonard Byron "Buckshot" Mathias Sr., 84, of Keyser, died on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at Frostburg Village Nursing Center.

Born Oct. 30, 1922, in Keyser, he was the son of the late Lee Franklin Mathias and Effie (Stoltz) Mathias.

A United States Army Veteran of World War II with the 745th Railroad Operating Battalion, having served in the China, Burma, and India Theaters, Mr. Mathias retired from CSX with 45 years of service. He was a member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren; the McCoole V.F.W 6775; the Davis Lodge 51 A.F.&A.M. the American Legion Post 41, Keyser; a life-member of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree; the NARVRE; the National Association of Railroad Retiree's; the Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen; and a 50-year member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association.

Mr. Mathias is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty J. (Glass) Mathias; his twins, Leonard B. Mathias Jr., and his wife, Barbara, of Confluence, Pa., and Claudia Ann Hambacker and her husband, Greg, of Richmond, Va.; his sister, Vesta Likin and her husband, Harry, of Keyser; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dwight Ramsey officiating.

Interment will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
