He was born May 3, 1927 in Hopkins County Ky.to the late Wesley Whitmer and Lacy Whitmer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and member of U.M.W.A. He was employed as a coal miner with Fies Coal Company. He was a member of Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Madisonville.
In addition to his parents was preceded in death by three brothers, Ellis Whitmer, James Whitmer and Wesley Whitmer Jr.; a sister, Verna Mae Underwood.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Whitmer of 62 years; a daughter, Roseanna (Wallace) Bowles of Madisonville; a son James Whitmer of Madisonville; a granddaughter, Savanna Garrity; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday January 2, 2010 in the Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bro. Ronnie Hendricks officiating and Bro. Roger Fuller assisting. Graveside services will be conducted by 101st Airborne Division and Hopkins County Honor Guard. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
