CARROLL GIVENS DIES SUDDENLY

Heart Attack Causes Death of Sun-Democrat Employee

Carroll G. Givens, 56 died suddenly this morning at 7:45 o’clock in the county while riding in an automobile with Thomas J. Coleman, Jr. Death was due to a heart attack, according to Dr. R. C. Gore, who was summoned at once by Coleman. Mr. Givens had been connected with the circulation department of The Sun-Democrat and the old Evening Sun for the past 25 years.

Although Mr. Givens had not been feeling well for the past several weeks, he had been attending to his work as usual and his sudden death was a great shock to his family and friends. He left his farm home on the Clark Line road shortly after 7 o’clock this morning to go to a neighbors with Mr. Coleman. They got in Mr. Givens’ car and Coleman took the wheel. They had driven about two miles on the Wild Cat road and were conversing when Mr. Givens suddenly slumped over in the seat. He was dead when Coleman stopped the car to see what was wrong. Coleman hurried to the home of Dr. Gore at Lone Oak, where an examination showed that death had probably resulted from heart failure. Dr. Gore said he talked with Mr. Givens about a heart ailment some time ago.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Gip Givens and Sarah “Sallie” Alvey Givens, one sister, Charlotte “Lottie” Givens. Surviving Mr. Givens are his wife, Cora Potter Givens; Two daughters Charlotte “Lottie” Givens Purdy (Hubert), Mary Lewis Givens, both of Paducah. One brother, Charles Muir Givens (Lillian), Circulation Manager for the Sun-Democrat. Three grandchildren, Carroll Russell Purdy, Bettie Ann Purdy and Sammy Lyle Purdy.
