Lillie Elizabeth Blakemore Lantrip, 96, died Saturday, January 09, 2010, in a local hospital. Born in Lake Providence, Louisiana, to Hal and Nettie Dawson Blakemore, Mrs. Lantrip graduated from Bastrop High School and Louisiana Normal College, now Northwestern State University, in Natchitoches. She was an elementary school teacher in various Louisiana school districts and also worked for the Louisiana Department of Welfare in Home Assessment. She was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Lantrip is survived by two daughters, Gay Lantrip of Lake Charles and Doris Murray and her husband Jim of Allen, Texas; daughter-in-law, Bennie Sue Lantrip of Magnolia, Mississippi; four grandchildren, David Blake Lantrip, Jane Marie Stringer, Katherine Johnston and Jack W. Murray, III; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Barron Blakemore "Buddy" Lantrip. Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Greenwood City Cemetery, 130 Stoner Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana, under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Rev. Rick LaFleur will officiate. Visitation at Johnson Funeral Home will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday, January 11, with a celebration of her life beginning at 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Janie Orphanage of India, c/o Victory Worship Center, 1410 West Napoleon, Sulphur, LA 70663 or Odyssey Healthcare of Lake Charles, 814 West McNeese Street, Lake Charles, LA 70605.
