Robert F. Strong, age 85, of Indiana, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.
He was born in 1924 in Indiana to Charles and Goldie Brendlinger Strong.
Robert was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army during the liberation of the Phillipines.
Mr. Strong was a founding member of the Indiana Church of the Brethren, having served as deacon. Robert was the supervising contractor for the original church in Indiana. Mr. Strong participated in prison ministry both at the county and state prisons as an active member of the Gideon International. He was also a member of the Indiana Home Builders Assoc. He was self employed as a home builder for his entire life.
Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Waltemire Strong, Indiana; two daughters and two sons, Judith Strong, Indiana; Nancy Vennard and husband Richard, Indiana; Robert Jr., New York, NY; Gerald, Indiana; two grandchildren, Rebecca Frederick and husband Travis, Indiana; Robinson Strong, New York, NY; two great grandchildren, Haydn and Braden Frederick; two sisters, Jean Zagurskie and husband Leonard, Springdale; Ruth Clevenger and husband Alec, Penn Run.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister, Sarah Stupic, Edward and Charles, Jr.
Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. at the Indiana Church of the Brethren with Pastor William Frey officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherryhill Cemetery, Indiana.
