Confederate Veteran Dies Thursday Night At Daughter's Home
HONEY GROVE - The funeral of Rev. C. B. Jennings, 92 years old, former resident of Brookston, who died at 10:30 o'clock Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Carraway in Sherman, was set for Friday afternoon at the Daniels funeral chapel at Sherman, the body being brought here afterward for burial at 4 o'clock at Oakwood cemetery by the side of his wife who died last July. He had been ill about two weeks.
Mr. Jennings was one of the few remaining members of Albert Sidney Johnston Camp No. 70, U. C. V., of Paris, and had attended the annual state reunion of Confederate veterans in Paris in 1932, one of the most active participants.
He had for may years lived at Brookston, having come to Texas over 50 years ago from Virginia where he was born March 11, 1842. He served in a Tennessee Cavalry regiment under General Forrest. Later he was ordained as a local preacher.
He was married to Miss Elizabeth Martin and of their eight children the surviving five are Mrs. W. B. Kidd, Brookston; Mrs. Clair Bartruff, Oklahoma City; Mrs. Carraway, Sherman; Foster Jennings of Fort Worth and Claud Jennings of Dallas. He also leaves five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
