August F.W. Abelbeck, son of Heinrich and Ida Abelbeck, nee Heitmann, was born in Drogenbostel, Germany on September 3, 1895 and died February 6, 1953 at the age of 57 years, 5 months and 3 days. He was baptized on September 15, 1895 and at the age of 14 years was confirmed into the Lutheran faith.

At the age of 16 years he left his home at Barggeld, Germany with his uncle Dietrich Abelbeck and arrived in the United States on March 18, 1912 to make his home with his aunt, Mrs. Minnie Luhrs.

On December 6, 1918 he was united in marriage with Clara Kettelhut and for 2 years they made their home on a farm northwest of Byron, later moving to two different farms south of Byron. In 1937 they moved to their home near Chester where they lived for the past 16 years. To this union were born 2 sons, Ervin and Lloyd, and 2 daughters, Arlene and Gladys.

Mr. Abelbeck was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byron for many years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Heinrich, and a sister, Erna.

Mr. Abelbeck is survived by his wife, Clara; 2 sons, Ervin of Deshler, Nebraska, and Lloyd of Hebron, Nebraska; 2 daughters, Mrs. Arlene Matthiesen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Mrs. Gladys Schleifer of Chester, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Heinrich Abelbeck of Bargfeld, Germany; a sister, Mrs. Martha Stoffers of Bargfeld, Germany; and many other relatives and friends.
