Clara Wood Jordan Barnes, of Sour Lake, was born to Luther and Bertie Jordan in Alazan, Texas and passed away on January 29, 2006 at her residence.

Clara was a resident of Sour Lake for the last thirty nine years and was a retired school teacher of Sour Lake High School. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Sour Lake. She graduated from Nacogdoches High School with honors in 1943. She received her masters in Education from Stephen F. Austin. Clara taught Home Economics in McAllen and Sour Lake High School.

She met Emmett Barnes in 1953 and they were united in marriage on December 25. In 1958 Emmett and Clara adopted two children, Martha and Mike. They moved to Sour Lake in 1966. She resided in Sour Lake till her death. While in Sour Lake she was an active member in the Methodist Church Women's Club and Caring Christian Sharing Mission. Clara loved cooking, sewing and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Emmett Barnes and her brother and sister- in- law Medford and Mary Helen Jordan.

Clara had a dear friend, Nadine Ford who loved and cared for her the last year and a half of her life.

Funeral service will be at First United Methodist Church of Sour Lake, with burial at Pine Ridge Cemetery of Sour Lake.
