She married the late Kendal Nelson in 1957. They built a home in South Range where they raised two children, Tracy and Michael. A graduate of UWS, Lois taught School at Northwestern High School in Maple and at WITC in Superior. She was a strong advocate of academics, holding a seat on the Superior School Board for several terms. Lois believed in volunteerism and community participation; over the years she was a dedicated Red Cross swimming instructor, a Parkland Raiders 4-H club music music and drama coach, and had served on boards for the Superior-area Retired Teachers Assn and for Palm Park in Brownsville, TX.
Lois loved spending her special weeks and any time she could with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, traveler, gardener and golfer, and enjoyed entertaining, playing cribbage and Scrabble, and sharing laughter with family and friends.
Preceding in death were her husband Kendall; and parents Harvey and Alice Almstedt.
Lois is survived by her daughter, tracy (Michael) Maurer, Forest Lake, MN; son, Michael (Kimberly) of Cottage Grove, MN; grandchildren, Margaret and Thomas Maurer, Forest Lake, MN; brother, Bernie (Sharron) Almstedt, Green Bay, WI; brother-in-law, Loren (Beulah) Nelson, Cushing, WI; sister-in-law, Lois I Nelson, Superior; and nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Private internment at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery.
