BIOGRAPHY LIFE SKETCH:
Garret was born in 1823 in Indiana to Richard Ring and Margaret (Peggy) Crews. His childhood was spent in Indiana. He married at the age of 21, on June 27, 1844, to Mary Pritchard in Kosciusko county, Indiana. Mary Pritchard was born May 12, 1825 in Indiana and was the daughter of John Pritchard. Garret and Mary had 4 children.
A son-Elijah born about 1845 who lived to the age of 19. Elijah died on the 20th of Oct 1864. He may have died as a soldier in the Civil war. He is buried in the Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana. A daughter Orlevia, who only lived 10 months, born 2 Oct 1846 and died 15 Aug 1847. She is buried in the Largro Township Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana.
A daughter Emma born about 1849. She lived about 34 years. She was the mother of 4 children. Emma married Oscar Ferdinand Grimes (these are my great grandparents).
On Jul 29, 1850. Garret bought part of lot 145 in the town of North Manchester, Chester Township, in Wabash County, Indiana.
In 1850 according to the 1850 census Garret was a grocer in Chester township, Wabash county, Indiana
A son, John Ring, who was born about 1852.
Mary died in 1852 possibly from childbirth. She is buried in the Largro Township Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana.
Garret married a second wife, Eliza or Louisa Marshall, in Wabash County Indiana in 1854. They had 4 children.
A daughter Margaret Ella born 1856.
A son Warren born Feb 1858.
A daughter Sarah Etta born Mar 1860.
A son George born Apr 1863.
Garret was engaged in the lumber business from about 1860 - 1900.
In 1866 Garret Ring was a Judge of the first ward in Wabash county. He was also the clerk for the Old Restoration Christian Church in Wabash Indiana in 1868. His daughter, Emma Ring Grimes , died on the 5th of March 1881. She is buried in the Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana. His second wife died in St Louis Missouri 19 May 1897 and was also buried in the Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Indiana. The family moved from Wabash county, Indiana sometime between 1880 and 1900.
In the year 1900 Garret was a carpenter in St Louis Missouri. Living in the same home was his daughter Ella, who was a millner ( a maker of women's hats), and his son George & wife Dina. George was also a carpenter. A grandson Ernest Ring (son of John Ring) was also living with the family. In 1910 Garret was still living in St Louis Missouri with his daughter Ella and another daughter Sarah Etta who is married. I am not sure who Sarah Etta is married to. In the census record for 1910 the spouse appears to be Frank Jose, but in the obituary of Garret Ring in 1910 it says that Garret is survived by two daughters Miss Ella Ring and Mrs. Ed Best (So is Sarah Etta's husband Frank Jose from the 1910 census or Ed Best from the obituary?) The obituary of Garret Ring also mentions that Garret is survived by three sons John, Warren and George. All the living children were residing in St Louis at the time of Garret's death, except John who was residing in Indiana. Garret died, at the age of 87, on the 26th of Dec 1910. He had spent the previous 4 months visiting his son John Ring in Marion, Grant county, Indiana.
