BIDDEFORD - Former resident, Major Lionel R. Cote, 64, U.S. Army retired, of Columbus, GA, died Sunday at Columbus Hospice House. He was born April 10, 1936 in Biddeford, a son of Joseph F. and Eva L. Mondville Cote, graduated from St. Louis High School in 1956 and joined the Army that same year. He married Dorothy T. Desrochers of Biddeford in 1957. He retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service and worked in civil service at Fort Benning for 17 years. During his military career, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam and recieved two Silver Stars, four Bronze Stars, with one for Valor, and two Purple Hearts. He also received the St. Maurice Legionnaire Medal during his civil service career. He had lived in Columbus since 1969 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. His brother, Fernand, and a sister, Simonne Kallenbach, died previously. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane Y. (Mrs. Daniel R.) Mingo of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Linda L. (Mrs. Gary D.) Youngblood of Phenix City, AL; a son Michael R. of Warner Robins, GA; a brother, Raymond of Biddeford; five grandchildren and a great grandson.
