NEWTON — Waneta "Skeet" F. Stender, 82, died on July 22, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was born on June 25, 1926, in rural Floris, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Marie (Miller) Haney. They preceded her in death.

Waneta married William H. Stender on Oct. 29, 1977, in Denver. He died on Oct. 13, 1992.

She was a homemaker most of her life. Her hobbies included painting, reading, baking, raising flowers and canning foods. Waneta is survived by two brothers, Rex Haney, of Omaha, Neb., and Charles Haney of Ayr, Neb.; a sister, Doris McCurdy of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Dean; and three sisters, Ruth May, Nola Mosley, and Iris Reynolds, .

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Chaplain Denny Bell will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Fund or Burn Hospitals, both in care of the funeral home.
