Henry was the youngest of nine children born to Ole and Anna Lillevold. He was born and raised on their farm in the southeast quarter of section 15, Tanberg twp, Wilkin Co., Minnesota, about three miles northwest of Rothsay. He was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay.
Henry served in the U.S. Army from 25 June 1944 to 7 July 1946, in the Signal Corps, Company B, 63rd Signal Operations Battalion, including service in Italy and Austria from 10 Dec 1944 to 8 June 1946.
Henry's Y-DNA haplogroup was I-M253 (also called I1, from a 2016 23andMe test of his male-line first cousin once removed), and his mitochondrial (maternal) DNA haplogroup was H13a1a (from 23andMe tests of more than eight of his female-line relatives).
