Jessie "Marie" Smith Baker, 92 of Salinas, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. She was born to parents; Benjamin Franklin Redman and Sarah Jessie Wilson Redman on January 4, 1918 at home in South Central Iowa.

Marie graduated from Osceola High School in 1936 and moved to Evanston, IL. She and her husband, Jack moved to Salinas, CA in November, 1944 and lived there for 65 years.

She was united in marriage to Jack Merle Smith on July 1, 1941. Three sons blessed their marriage; James Harry, William Robert, and Kenneth Lawrence, who died in infancy in 1951. Marie married James (Jim) Baker on February 18, 1980.

Marie was Past President of Cecil M. Anderson Auxiliary #589 and a member over 50 years; Past Chapeau Loma Prieta Salon #435 for over 50 years; member of Salinas Golf and Country Club for 40 years, now a social member; Women of the Moose #658 and past member of Salinas-Alisal Lion's Club. She was owner with her husband, Jack of Smith Sign Co., and owned Valley Center Flower Shop. She retired from Real Estate in 1994. Marie loved Bowling, Golf, Gardening, Cooking and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Sarah Redman, husband, Jack on May 28, 1966, husband, Jim on January 26, 1992, brothers, Cliffton Redman, Raymond Redman, Horace Redman, sisters, Madge Kernen, Doris Sink, daughter-in-law, Carol Smith, sisters-in-law, Louise Redman, Nadene Redman, and brother-in-law, Russell Kernen.

Marie is survived by sons, James (Barbara Razo) Smith, William "Billy" Smith, grandchildren, Vernon (Helena) Smith, Kenny and Shane Smith, Jacob (Elisabeth) Smith, step-daughter, Suzan (Jerry) Nordeman, Janice (Paul) Wilcox, step-son, James P. Baker, step-grandson, Tab (Mary) Gonyou, step-granddaughter, Jamie (Steve) Smith, and Lauren and Matthew Nordeman, four great-grandchildren, Vernon Jr., Matthew, Kelly Smith, Colby Smith, five step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, Leah Kadence Smith, sister-in-law, Wanda Redman, seven nieces, nine nephews, numerous relatives, friends, and special friends, Corina and Colby.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 10:00am to 1:30pm at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

Service will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 1:30pm at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.

Entombment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
