WWI Draft Card dated June 5, 1917 in McDowell, West Virginia, revealed Harvey Reed Bowman was 21 and single. He was born on May 29, 1896, was a brakeman at Powhatan Co. and resided at 3277 Powhatan, West Virginia. He was tall, slender, had brown eyes and black hair.

Harvey Bowman was about twenty-six and Annie Ruff was about twenty-seven when they married about 1923.

The 1930 census revealed Harvey worked for wages as a City Water Manager and they owned a radio. They owned their home and their real estate value was $3000. Annie's brother, Lacky Ruff and Harvey's two nephews were living with them in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina. Harvy was 25 and Annie was 19 when they married. Household members: Harvy R. Bowman (33), Annie R. (27), Harvy R. Jr. (5), Dora E. (3), Thelma E. (3/12), nephews; Guy H. West (17) & Steedly R. West (13) and Lacky A. Ruff (41).

Harvey (42) died at 8 pm of Hypertensive Heart Disease on January 29, 1940 in Richland County, South Carolina.

Headstone Application record on February 15, 1940 revealed Mrs. Annie Bowman of 207 N. Pryor St, reported that her husband, Harvey Bowman died January 29, 1940. He was a WWI veteran in North Carolina and served from August 29, 1918 to Jan 1919 as a Private in 2nd Co Battalion. He was buried in Stewart Cemetery in Stewart, Virginia. The headstone was shipped to his mother, Mrs. Green Bowman in Virginia on April 2, 1940.
