Marianna Lyon Meredith went home to The Lord on March 4, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after a brief illness.
She was born in Durham, NC on August 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Wortham Clarence Lyon and Elizabeth Cecelia Card. Also preceded in death by her son, David Kendrick Meredith.
Mrs. Meredith was a beloved wife and mother who enjoyed caring for infants and those in need. She loved animals and was an avid Duke Blue Devil fan all her life. She was the granddaughter of W.W. "Cap" Card of Trinity College (Duke Univ.), Duke's first basketball coach. She attended St. Mary's College in Raleigh and in 1957 graduated from Duke with a degree in Elementary Education.
Mrs. Meredith was a long time member of Carmel Presbyterian Church and volunteered regularly at the Durham Ronald McDonald House. She supported many charitable organizations, especially those who cared for animals. She and her husband enjoyed trips to the beach and just recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with a trip to Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Mrs. Meredith is survived by her husband, Howard P. Meredith, Jr.; son, Daniel Wade Meredith; daughter Martha Elizabeth (Marty) Meredith; brother, Wortham C. (Buddy) Lyon, Jr of Monroe and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Marianna and Howard divided their time between Charlotte and Durham.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Carmel Presbyterian Church in Charlotte on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Dr. William Katibah and Rev. Jim Szeyller officiating.

Graveside services will be held in the Durham Maplewood Cemetery on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. T. Mel Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home later from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Charlotte arrangements are under the care of the Heritage Funeral & Cremation Services. The Durham Arrangements are under the care of the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.heritagefuneral.net.
